First I need to point out the quantity of ill informed Americans blindly following the extremist views preached to them by media figure heads such as Glenn Beck touting "Shut 'er down".
Has Glenn Beck and the like sat down and done the appropriate amount of research on the colossal side effects of this act? Do they not realize all the leaps and bounds that we have accomplished to start to overcome the recent economic recess. I am not touting that the Government made all the right decisions (Actually I disagree with most of them, money should have been spent on overhauling American transportation and communication infrastructure not bailing out failed business models) but we have just began crawling out of the economic turmoil and new jobs have been starting to surface. This "Shut 'er down" mentality will put us right back into the economic sink hole. Federal small business financing, Housing loans, Pell grants (which are what provides financial assistance to college students), Portions of the Health Department such as clinical trials and FDA approval, Military Death Benefits will be frozen, Military salaries will be frozen, paper tax filings (Do you not want to get your tax return?), and the list goes on...
The level of ill informed Americans throwing opinions around that they do not fully understand need to take a step back, shut their mouths and do some much needed research. The #1 problem through all of this is purely the faulty education, lack of research, and media figure heads abusing their power without fully understanding the issues even themselves!
Sure, say "Shut 'er down" one more time but understand when you say that you're looking at plunging America on the path to no longer being a world super power and a drastic change to our quality of life. Congratulations Tea Parties, you're almost to the point of destroying America through ignorance.
They, Beck, and others want America to get a huge dose of reality. They know what they are saying. They are tired of sane, intelligent, middle of the road American moderates giving in to pressure because they know what will happen because the stupid people want what they want and are willing to destroy us to get it.
ReplyDeleteExtremes in any thing are bad, even in good things we like (food, games, love, you get the picture). Extremes, "Left" or "Right" they will destroy our country if we let them.
ReplyDeleteI'm not entirely certain I'm willing to sacrifice the view of America on the global scope, sacrifice the value of my income I earn on the global scope, sacrifice my way of life to give uneducated morons a dose of reality.
ReplyDeleteStart giving competency tests for the right to vote, cut funding to people abusing the welfare system...
But when it comes down to brass tacks, a government shut down is going to impact the economy and likely send us to a point worse than it was at the peak of the economy recess. Sure I live in the tech bubble, but this even scares me... There isn't much else left to cut, tech is all that's left, the entire world is going to hell and here we are trying to "give a dose of reality" which will cause an even worse fall out here at home.
This level of absurdity is uncalled for, the fact that death benefits for military are going to be frozen (whoops... your husband or wife died in Iraq or Afghanistan but you don't get money for an undefined period of time), military paychecks are going to be frozen (imagine if your paycheck was going to be frozen indefinitely), small business loans from the federal bank will be frozen (there goes innovation for our growing small businesses), new drug trials will be frozen (crap.. that cure for diabetes is put on hold), home loans will be put on hold (wait... doesn't a GIANT portion of our economy drive off home sales?).... Things that MAKE the government money are going to be frozen, this isn't a money saving ploy... this is just political absurdity taken to the absolute extreme and is only going to cost us money in the short term as well as the long term.
I refuse to see any argument where this move makes ANY logical sense.
If those soldiers don't get paid, does that mean they are in effect laid off... Should they just stop what they are doing and come home to sign up for the unemployment that won't be there? How about those congressmen go take their places. I think that would make them quit the petty bickering and come up with some quick usable legislation for once. I don't agree with the idea of a shut down of any kind either. I just see why some people are getting tired of the mess.
